1ST DAY OF SCHOOL!!

This morning was a little crazy! We got up bright and early because the kids go to school about 20 minutes away. They BOTH have to be there by 8 and they go to 2 different schools. When I found that out I freaked out a little because I wasn't sure how I was going to do that. Also for the first 2 weeks they both get out at 11! Yikes!! :)
We got to Aedan's school super early and found the number for him to stand and wait to go to class. He was very excited but very shy. I tried to get him to talk to a little boy in his class (we were standing by him in line) and he was just too shy. Luckily the boy wasn't shy and pretty soon Aedan talked a little bit. The teacher came out and gave all the kids name tags and then off they went!
I explained to Aedan that for the 2nd half of the day he would be in his spanish classroom and the teacher would only speak spanish so he wouldn't understand anything because I wanted him to be prepared for that. I said that maybe she would have pictures to go with what she was saying (I don't know how this works!).  :)

Geoff took Cali and Em to get the car while I stayed for the last few minutes. Once he was off to class I rushed to the car so we could race to Cali's school. Her preschool is at an elementary school and we love it! Aedan learned a ton last year and we love the program they have there. It's also totally safe because their classroom is completely gated in and you have to sign your kid in and out. We got her there when there was one parent left standing in the doorway to sign their kid in. So it was perfect timing! We signed her in and we looked around the classroom (even though she's already seen it a million times). She was shy and a little nervous but she said goodbye and went over to play. So brave! :)

I went to get Aedan and he had a great day! He met some new friends and showed me his paper he did where he worked with the letter A (easy peasy review for this kid!). When I asked how his spanish class was he said "I didn't understand anything she said and she DIDN'T have pictures!". Whoops! :) He did say a few minutes later that she told him he had red in his shoes and he understood that because he knows that red in spanish is rojo (or however you spell it). He was very excited about that. So on the way back to the car we reviewed the colors in spanish.

Grandma will be picking up Cali for the 2 weeks that Aedan gets out at 11. She has her lunch break just in time so she'll run over to get her for me (whew!) and I will be picking her up at Grandma's. So I didn't get to pick her up but she told me that they read books, played and colored. She had fun!

JUST BECAUSE

she's so cute! This used to be Cali's dress and it also looks very cute on Em. So, I thought I'd share. I know they are very similar but I can't help posting them all. :)

BACK TO SCHOOL HAIRCUTS

We took the kids to get haircuts for the new school year. Aedan was in desperate need of a cut and Cali just needed a little trim. Aedan was totally excited and wanted to go to an actual place (we usually just have Geoff do it) so we took him. Cali was nervous, as usual. She is always scared that they will chop off all of her hair and she won't have "long hair like Rapunzel". Once I assure her that they are only cutting a tiny bit she's ok. :)

Oh, and while we waited for the haircuts... the kids were looking at a magazine. It was pretty funny. Kids see magazines so much differently than they are intended. For example, Cali was looking at a page with a celebrity in a bikini. I'm not sure what it said but Cali just said "Look, she's going swimming". They were also looking at the "who wore it best" section and that was funny because Cali would said "Oooh, I like this dress, and this dress" and then she was like "hey, they're wearing the same dress!" like it was silly. No judging which is the intention of the article. Anyway... maybe you had to be there but it was pretty fun to listen to them.

KINDER ORIENTATION

On Friday we had Aedan's Kindergarden orientation. For those who don't know, Aedan will be going into the Dual Language Immersion Program. This program teaches in English AND Spanish so that by the time the child graduates from 6th grade they can read write and speak fluently in both languages. My little sister is in it and is quite the little Spanish speaker. It's an amazing program and I am so excited that he got in! Because of that he will have 2 teachers this year... his English speaking teacher and his Spanish speaking teacher. The English teacher speaks ONLY English to the kids and the parents and the Spanish teacher speaks ONLY Spanish to the kids and the parents. So... it's going to be an interesting experience for us and Aedan.
We went to the orientation in the English classroom so we'd understand what was being said :) and then looked around both classrooms and met both teachers. Aedan switches classrooms in the middle of the day so he will be in both rooms. We looked around at everything. Aedan was MUCH more comfortable meeting his English speaking teacher. I figured out that I understand more spanish than I thought because I was actually able to tell Aedan what she was saying to him so he could answer (all VERY simple stuff).
FYI: I purposefully leave out Aedan's school name as well as teacher names for obvious reasons. This is the internet after all. :)

SPIT UP FACE

This is what happens when you roll over onto your tummy, spit up and then rest your head on the blanket (right where you spit up) and have to wait for Mommy to figure it out and come to your rescue...

PICNIC

Our church has a baseball field and picnic area right behind it so they have picnics there sometimes. Tonight was one of those times so we stopped at Del Taco for dinner (taco tuesday!) and headed over. They bring game type things for people to play with so the kids were playing Frisbee and stuff. Geoff ran around with them while I played with Em. It was a fun night. :)

TUMMY TIME

Ever since Em learned to roll over she's been spending a lot of time on her tummy. Sometimes she gets a little cranky about it but mostly she likes it. Today she figured out that she can just put her head down and chill. She's also teething so she's drooling like crazy and has her hand in her mouth a lot. I just adore her little face. :)

MICKEY EARS

When I was getting out the bedding for the crib the other night, I found Aedan's Mickey ears from his first trip to Disneyland. When we got it, the hat was WAY to big but it seems to fit now!

SOUND IT OUT

We've been working on spelling/reading/syllables with Aedan and he is totally into it. He asks all the time how to spell something or we ask him how to spell something. When he asks us we say "sound it out" and then help him figure it out. He's gotten pretty good at it. The other day we were having "school time" and when it was Cali's turn to do school stuff he wanted to write Uncle Kevin's name. I helped him sound it out and he wrote it and I took a picture so Kevin could see. :)

SEW CUTE!

I got a pattern and fabric for a "pillowcase" style dress for Cali about a year ago and never did anything with it. After working on some other crafty type things I was in a "creating" type mood so I got out the pattern and fabric and got to work. I have only sewn one other dress and my Mom was there to help so I was a little nervous to do this all by myself. I am pleasantly surprised that it turned out pretty cute. I did call my Mom to read her the instructions when I could not understand something. Good thing she's been sewing so long that she was able to just tell me what to do and I got it. :)
Once the dress was done I wanted to make a flower for Cali's hair that would match. She loved the dress and the flower and was so excited to wear them!

Em wore a new little dress on Sunday too (I didn't make this one, it was a gift) and she looked so cute too. I actually really like the yellow/grey combination. :) Don't you just wanna kiss those cheeks? I do ALL THE TIME!!
