My Brothers and I got together for the for Bi-annual Douglas Brother's Vacation. This time we chose The Motor City, Detroit MI.
It all started at...
Kinda weird that they steam the burgers... but we didn't die. So I consider it a success.
One of the brothers grabbed a Suburban, and we all had a great time talking while the youngest brother, Ian, drove us around. He was a great sport as we all tried our hardest to make him go the way each of us wanted.

Detroit has been hit hard economically, there is a fair amount of Ghetto...
Many Large Apartment Size Buildings, vacant and run down.
Although there are many poverty stricken areas, there is no shortage of very old and large churches.
There were several cathedrals with great architectural elements.
Thanks to Ben, The Food Finder, we ate our first breakfast/lunch at The Fly Trap.
The Gingerbread Waffles were amazing! I was impressed with the use of light molasses flavored syrup, fresh and dried fruit topping that perfectly complemented the gingerbread flavors in the waffle.
Probably the winning dish of the trip.
The Faux Soup, and Asian inspired dish that was packed with flavor and just the right touch of heat.
One of the first stops for us was the MOTOWN Museum. We learned all about Barry Gordy the founder of the record label his family and many of the well-known artists that we all know and love today. Amazing stories. Fun Place to see.

This is the street that was the center of MOTOWN. Barry and his company owned almost all the houses and they used each house for a different business purpose, from the recording studio, to accounting and business administration.
Dinner was at Nick and Nino's in Monroe, MI
Wings, Ribs, Spinach Dip, Tacos, Lasagna... good stuff.

The next Morning we went Downtown for breakfast at Astoria Bakery

We went a little crazy choosing... but it was awesome to be able to try all the goodness.

An original Model T, from 1911
This particular car is disassembled and reassembled everyday as part or the exhibit.
Fun Fact: Each original Model T were assembled in 90 mins by the early makers of this little beauty.
The Museum was an amazing collection of artifacts... including the largest item...
The Largest Coal/Steam Locomotive Engine. This massive Allegheny engine is the last of 6 that were ever made. It is so large that they pretty much built the Museum around the train.
Tom has always loved the VW's especially the Bus.

Well that is it. The brothers departed.
Delta has these cool stats that tells how fast you are going... and what the current altitude.
Pretty cool to see the path of the plane.
Glad to be home with the Family!

I think Geoff should do more guest posts, that was great. You should get a tax deduction for making a toursty trip to Detroit...who knew it had so many exciting places to see or eat. One thing though Geoff, the soup is spelled PHO, Faux. That is the living in VA girl in me...
