BIG SUR MUD RUN 2011

When we got to Grandpa's Friday night they mentioned that one of their neighbors couldn't do it anymore so if Geoff wanted to do it he could. He wasn't planning on it or prepared but he decided to go for it. So for the day he was Tracy, a 49 year old Female. Since they don't actually check your bibs it worked out fine. :)
We got 2 hours of sleep and it was cold and rainy but we were ready and super excited! Tammy and I brought our cameras (not my nice one, don't worry) so we could take pictures. Tammy took a lot more than I did but shared them with me so I have a bunch. I'm still waiting for the professional pictures so I'll post those when I get them.

We took some pictures of us before hand since we knew we wouldn't look the same after.

Tammy & I registered together so we were 1 number apart:
(take a good look at my shirt... it wasn't the same again)

Grandpa, me, Tammy and Grandma Laurie:

Me, Geoff, Tammy and Kevin:

Before the race they had us do some warm up stuff like squats, sit ups and push ups. Then we were off! Grandpa, Grandma Laurie, Tammy and I were in the first wave of people and then 10 minutes later Geoff, Kevin and Jane (Grandpa's neighbor) were in the second wave.

There were more mud pits and walls than they told us... 5 mud pits and 3 walls. In the first mud pit there were 5 hurdles we had to climb over while the army dudes splashed mud at us. The mud & water was FREEZING cold!!

Grandma Laurie going over the hurdle:

Here I am climbing out of the 1st mud pit:
(not too muddy yet... from the waist up anyway)

Grandpa, me and Tammy during the run:
(Grandma Laurie ran ahead to take the picture)

Tammy & I running along:
(Tammy and I wore hip packs to hold our cameras and stuff.
I've decided that hip packs aren't so flattering)

Go Grandpa & Grandma Laurie!!

The first wall:
(Grandpa helped me up since Geoff hadn't caught up yet)

Tammy:

See Grandpa in the middle?

Grandma Laurie:

Right after the 1st wall was our 2nd mud pit. We had to army crawl through it. That's when we really got muddy! I did really great in the mud pits and got down and muddy!! :) This is where Geoff caught up with us (Kevin had flown by right after the 1st hurdles).

I was so excited to see Geoff!!

Once I saw Geoff coming I waited for him and the others got ahead of us by a few minutes. So, we didn't take as many pictures after that. After Tammy finished she ran back just in time to get Geoff and I finishing our last wall and mud pit.

The last mud pit had a leafy cover over it so we had to get pretty low in the mud. Once we crawled out we were almost done! 3/4 a lap around a track and that was it!

This is a pretty good picture of the mud pit.

We finished!!

At the end they gave everyone emergency type blankets to keep us warm since it was such a cold day and we were all wet and muddy. We got medals and shirts too!

Our muddy faces:
(you can't really see the mud on mine but I LOVE Geoff's face!)

Kevin!
We hadn't seen him since he flew by us. He finished in the top 50 overall! Amazing!!

Grandpa & Laurie getting warm:
They both placed in their age category. They are amazing!!

All of us:
Grandpa, Kevin, Geoff (aka Tracy), me and Tammy
Grandma Laurie and Jane

My knees were torn up a bit from the mud pits. I should have taken pictures later when the bruises all showed up but that's ok. I had scrapes on both knees and they were a bit swolen. My knee caps hurt the whole next day. I wasn't expecting that.

It was such an awesome experience and we are planning to do it next year too! I think my Mom is even talking about doing it too!

Here's Geoff and I with our shirts on!

GRANDPA'S!

Grandpa & Laurie had made all of us bunny bags filled with treats. They were super cute and the kids loved them!!
There were lots of us staying at Grandpa's so we brought our air mattress for the weekend. The kids had a blast jumping on it... and falling.

THE BIG RED CHAIR

We drove up to Sacramento on Friday for our exciting weekend! Aedan had been talking about Grandpa's big red chair for at least a week so the first thing he wanted to do was go see it again. Kevin hadn't been there in at least 3 years so he was excited to see it for the first time after seeing it in pictures. He was still surprised by how bit it was! We took some pictures in it over the weekend so I'm just going to put all of them in here together.

Aedan ringing the bell again...

Kevin got to ring the bell!

The kids with Kev and Tammy...

Cali was shy at first but then rang the bell...

A BOOK FOR ALL AGES

Yesterday I spent the rest of the day (after visiting Grandma) reading surrounded by pillows on the couch. I needed to ice and prop up my knee because it's been hurting and I need it to be ok for the Mud Run on Saturday. A little before bed time I found Cali on the couch laying on my pillows with one of my books. She looked all cozy and like she was actually reading it. What book did she choose?? Twilight of course! I guess you're never to young to read about sparkling vampires. :)
