When we got to Grandpa's Friday night they mentioned that one of their neighbors couldn't do it anymore so if Geoff wanted to do it he could. He wasn't planning on it or prepared but he decided to go for it. So for the day he was Tracy, a 49 year old Female. Since they don't actually check your bibs it worked out fine. :)
We got 2 hours of sleep and it was cold and rainy but we were ready and super excited! Tammy and I brought our cameras (not my nice one, don't worry) so we could take pictures. Tammy took a lot more than I did but shared them with me so I have a bunch. I'm still waiting for the professional pictures so I'll post those when I get them.
We took some pictures of us before hand since we knew we wouldn't look the same after.
Before the race they had us do some warm up stuff like squats, sit ups and push ups. Then we were off! Grandpa, Grandma Laurie, Tammy and I were in the first wave of people and then 10 minutes later Geoff, Kevin and Jane (Grandpa's neighbor) were in the second wave.
There were more mud pits and walls than they told us... 5 mud pits and 3 walls. In the first mud pit there were 5 hurdles we had to climb over while the army dudes splashed mud at us. The mud & water was FREEZING cold!!
Right after the 1st wall was our 2nd mud pit. We had to army crawl through it. That's when we really got muddy! I did really great in the mud pits and got down and muddy!! :) This is where Geoff caught up with us (Kevin had flown by right after the 1st hurdles).
Once I saw Geoff coming I waited for him and the others got ahead of us by a few minutes. So, we didn't take as many pictures after that. After Tammy finished she ran back just in time to get Geoff and I finishing our last wall and mud pit.
The last mud pit had a leafy cover over it so we had to get pretty low in the mud. Once we crawled out we were almost done! 3/4 a lap around a track and that was it!
At the end they gave everyone emergency type blankets to keep us warm since it was such a cold day and we were all wet and muddy. We got medals and shirts too!
My knees were torn up a bit from the mud pits. I should have taken pictures later when the bruises all showed up but that's ok. I had scrapes on both knees and they were a bit swolen. My knee caps hurt the whole next day. I wasn't expecting that.
It was such an awesome experience and we are planning to do it next year too! I think my Mom is even talking about doing it too!
